Pure White Gelcoat

Description:

Our standard pure white gelcoat is meticulously formulated for both new parts and repair tasks. Primarily used in marine applications, it’s designed for exterior use, ensuring longevity and resistance against the elements. While pigment can be added to modify its color, the pure white base will influence the final shade.

Key Features:

  • Multi-purpose: Suitable for crafting new parts AND conducting repairs.
  • Marine-Grade: Commonly employed in marine applications for its durability and finish.
  • Color Customization: Can be tinted with pigments, though the pure white base will affect the final hue.

General Information on Gelcoats:

Gelcoats are protective layers applied to molds, offering a high-quality finish on the surfaces of fiber-reinforced composite materials. Once cured, they form cross-linked polymers, backed by a composite matrix. This matrix often includes materials like polyester resin and fiberglass. The gelcoat, when fully cured, presents a glossy, pigmented surface that enhances the aesthetic appeal of the final product, whether it’s a boat hull or any other composite structure. Typically applied at a thickness of 0.5 mm to 0.8 mm, gelcoats provide a robust outer layer that shields the underlying composite from environmental factors.

Instructions:

  1. Ensure the surface is clean and free from contaminants.
  2. Stir the gelcoat thoroughly before use.
  3. If tinting, add the desired pigment and mix well, keeping in mind the pure white base will influence the final color.
  4. Apply the gelcoat using appropriate tools, ensuring even coverage.
  5. Allow to cure as per manufacturer’s guidelines.

Safety:

  • Always work in a well-ventilated area to minimize inhalation of fumes.
  • Wear protective gloves and eyewear during application.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from children and pets.
  • If in contact with skin, wash immediately with soap and water.
  • Seek medical attention if ingested or if there’s contact with eyes.

Additional Notes:

For a smooth and polishable finish, our Surfacing wax (sanding aid) is essential. Ensure you have this on hand to achieve optimal results. All gelcoat prices include the necessary catalyst: 1 Quart comes with 1oz, 1 Gallon with 3oz, and 5 Gallons with 13oz.
